FAQs about postpartum therapy & coaching
-
The postpartum period is different for everyone. Many women (up to 85%) may experience the "baby blues," which are often associated with the significant hormone changes following birth. Additionally, research shows that nearly 14% of new moms experience postpartum anxiety symptoms and nearly 18% of new moms experience postpartum depression symptoms.
Body image issues are also common following birth. In some cases, this can trigger underlying eating disorders. And in general, big life transitions (like having a baby!) are bound to bring up self-doubt, difficult emotions, and other challenges. That's why getting support is critical during this time.
-
Postpartum mental health issues typically emerge in the days to weeks following birth. However, some women may notice symptoms a few months after their baby is born. Each person is different, so it's important to continuously check in with yourself and reach out for support if you notice any new symptoms.

There are many forms of support available for postpartum mamas. Talk therapy is one of the main treatments for postpartum depression, anxiety, and other mental health issues. Depending on the severity of your symptoms, we may also recommend medication management through your healthcare provider and/or a psychiatrist.
While we always recommend working with a professional, informal forms of support can be a helpful complement to your postpartum journey. For example, you may consider joining a virtual support group through an organization like Postpartum Support International or participating in a local parenting group.
